June Update - the road to recovery!

I'm back from the doctors with great news.
I can now start at the next phase of training, my back has improved and is on the mend.
I will be getting back into things nice and slow so I don't aggravate things and go back to square one.
I am very sad that I have missed out on this years world cups and championships, but I have had a much needed mental and physical break from training and competition.

My invaluable support network have helped me so much, I realise that the sun will still rise in the morning and I can now see things in a better perspective.
I am ready to come back and train, I cant wait to race again soon!

Right now I am working in the gym lightly easing back into things, mostly working on areas of weakness.
A lot of core and stability work and re-addressing certain exercises I was doing when I was a junior rider.

I was offered an opportunity to commentate for SBS at the World Titles in Melbourne, it was a great way to still be apart of something I really wanted to be racing at.
It was great to catch up with the team as well as Anna my sister who is absolutely flying right now.

I learnt new skills with SBS, It was difficult at first but when Anna started racing it was a breeze!
I had a lot of fun!
I learnt by watching cycling from a spectator perspective, although I was definitely feeling like I was on the wrong side of the fence.
I was able to read and observe tactics very clearly, which helped my understanding of important patterns to use when racing.

All a very positive and exciting time right now, I'll be starting to lift again very soon in the gym which is important to get the required strength back in my legs.

My next major goal will be to compete at the World Titles next year in march in L.A.
And also to defend my titles at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006.

I am training in Brisbane from the 2nd till the 17th of June.
I then will be returning to Rockhampton to train for 3 weeks with the Australian Track Cycling Team.
There I will be able to help Anna by being her training partner and also to be back with the A.I.S team training again, its like family, I miss it very much.
I then will resume training in Brisbane till the A.I.S camp later this year in Adelaide.
Brisbane will be my main base for the next few months.

I just want to thank EVERYBODY - (coaches, physio's, doctors, family, friends) including very understanding sponsors who have stuck by me in this difficult time in my life and career.
I want to make you proud as I train towards becoming a World and Olympic champion.
Thank you.
From Kerrie Meares.
